Explanation about Camels

Explanation about Camels

How would you feel if you had to live in the unforgiving climate such as the desert with almost no water and vegetation, so that is why camels have made physical changes  their bodies. Did you know that a camel can drink up to 46 litres of water.

In the desert the sun beats down on the sand with makes it very hot so that is why camels have grown pads on their feet and chest that help with walking on the hot sand. When walking on the sand it feels like your sinking into the sand, so that is why these animals have webbing between their toes that allows them to walk across the terrain.

These animals have a way to have water without needing to drink it. They have humps that store fat that carries the all the nutrition and water that it needs to survive. Due to not having much vegetation for camels to eat, they cactus, bones and twigs. They have thick lips that protect their mouths from the thorns on cactus plants.

The desert there are harsh sand storms that can blind you but camels have a way to help with by growing thick eyelashes that help with keeping the sand out of their eyes. They also have nostrils that can open and close so that sand doesn't get into their nose.

Today for Writing we were learning about how camels have adapted ( made changes )  to their body to survive in the desert. For this activity, each person created an explanation about what parts of their bodies they made changes to, what they eat and who much water they can drink. I really enjoyed doing this activity because these animals have made great changes.

Apostrophes

Apostrophes

Today for Mrs. Anderson's writing group we were learning about Apostrophes. We learned where you use them and how to use them. For my examples, I used one sentence that doesn't have an apostrophe in it and wrote the sentence again and then I put the apostrophes in it. Did you now that an Apostrophe can be used in three ways like to mark possession, to mark contraction and mark plural single letters.

"PechaFlicker" Swimming

During this week we have been learning about how to make a PechaFlicker". What Iv'e learned is that when you link one story with another story by looking at pictures and that when someone is reading it they paint a picture with words to show not tell what is happening. We each made a recording of our selves telling our story. I worked collaboratively with my partner Avalon and we made a really amazing story by just exploring some pictures to go with our story. We have also been looking at different types of "PechaFlicker" like there was this one that I really like and it was about Dogs and we also looked at one about Friends and Family. It was fun to do because I got to tell a really good story with my pattern Avalon  by looking at photos.

Leap of Faith

My first flight

I woke up ready sore through the morning aroma.
I was ready to take a leap of faith. I spread my wings about to take off.
A strong wind rushed by me and I took a real fall.
As I layed on the grass I could see geese fly by in as skein with loud sound honking and
I wondered how they felt as they flew.
I am scared and nervous but I want to be brave. Butterflies looped in my stomach and
suddenly I felt quit queasy.
As I climbed safely in my barn and sat with a silent sigh I saw beetles scuttle by,
worms raced across the meadow,
grasshoppers leap and jumped through grass, bees buzzed from one
flower to another and other birds flew, through the trees.
I stood on a branch, spread my wings and launched myself with the a strong wind.

As I went higher and higher in the sky. I saw the geese in their skein and I saw meadow from higher than I’ve ever seen it before. It was the best feeling in the world because I could finally feel the open air. I could feel the clouds as it touched my wing. I was strong and I was brave that is why I had the confidence to do this for as long as I could possibly do.

This week for writing we created a narrative based on Leap of Faith. In my narrative I used powerful words to make the reader have an image what I've written. We could speak to the people next to us because it would be better to hear about the other person's story. I really liked writing this narrative because I got to image that I was a owl that was about to take there first leap of faith.

Two words One minute

Respect and Equipment

This year the  2018 Winter Olympics games will be held in Pyeongchang  South Korea.
They represent  their country by carrying their flag in the Opening and Closing Ceremony.

The first ever Winter Olympics where held in Paris, France 1924. They had some of the same sports they had in the 1924 Winter Olympics, the sports are skeleton, curling, figure skating, snowboarding, bobsleighing and cross country.
This year there will be 92 countries in the  2018 Winter Olympic games.

In the 2018 Winter Olympic games they have a lot of different equipment for so many different sports.
The use snowboards for snowboarding , for bobsledding they use sleights and for figure skating teams they use

In the Winter Olympics the people  have to have respect for each other, they have to respect each others countries.

136 to 138 Words

Today I tried explain what the Winter Olympics are about. I need to remember to put the full stops in the right places.

Today we used the ‘2 words 1 minute’ challenge to write a description about the Winter Olympics. After talking in pairs about the things we knew about the winter olympics we created a list of words (vocabulary) that would help us write our description. We chose the words ‘equipment’ and ‘respect’ to help us think about what we were going to write.

We talked about ideas with a partner, then we had 1 minute to put those ideas into sentences. We had to try our best to use all the words on our vocab list. After the minute was up we had 2 minutes to reread what we had written and make changes if anything didn’t make sense or if we had words and punctuation in the wrong place. When we finished checking we had 2 more minutes to carry on writing our descriptions.

I did good in explaining what this story is about.

I need to remember to use full stops at the end of my sentence and put them in the right place.

Guess where I am

Today LS 2 were busy remembering our holidays. We were supposed to describe certain points but not tell exactly where you are.  This was a really fun and interesting activity to do because I got to hear about my classmates holiday's. 🤔

My worst mistake ever

Let me tell you about the worst mistake I have ever made. One day when I was at my my old school we had our weekly assembly. My teacher told me it was important that we weren’t late because it was our Values assembly. We lined up outside our classroom and walked over to the hall.

Soon the principal was calling kids on to the stage to get their certificates. I heard my name, ‘...ickaela,’ I felt so happy. I ran to the stage, my face full of excitement and a big smile, only to hear the words, “I said Mickaela not Nickaela. Please get off the stage!” I felt so embarrassed my smile disappeared very quickly. I felt my heart beating a lot slower than when I climbed up the stairs. I heard lots of laughter and saw lots of fingers pointing at me. I felt so humiliated as I turned around and ran back down the stairs.

I walked back as fast as I could to my seat and covered my head with my jersey. I just didn’t want anyone to see me. Now I try really hard to listen carefully because I really know that mistakes can happen when you are not listening carefully.

Today we did the 5-7-10 activity for writing to describe the worst mistake we have ever made. We had to write for 5 minutes, share what we had written with a buddy for 7 minutes, and then carry on writing for another 10 minutes.
