How A Bill Becomes A Law

How A Bill Becomes A Law

For the past couple of weeks, we have been learning about Bills, Laws & the Government, but we also learned how bills can become laws. I have learned things such as the 7 Steps of making a bill a law and how exactly

The 7 Steps are :

  1. Bill Is Introduced - The bill is introduced to the whole house
  2. First Reading - The members of parliament debate if the bill should be further discussed or if it should be rejected.
  3. Select Committee - A selected committee of MP's read & listen to what the public points of view of the public and interested organizations, recommend suggestions (changes) & then report back to the House. This takes within six months.
  4. Second Reading - The bill is returned to the House and with the recommendations of the select committee. The members consider the recommendations and decide if the bill should be taken forth of the Committee of the whole house.
  5. Committee Of The Whole House - The Members debate the bill partly by part in a detailed examination that usually takes several days & that is the last chance to change anything on the bill.
  6. Third Reading - This is the final debate, in which the MP's take a look bill as one whole and discuss what will happen if the bill becomes a law.
  7. Royal Assent - The Governer- General signs of the bill on behalf of the Sovereign, agreeing that the bill will become an Act Of Parliament and pass into a law.

The Branches Of The NZ Government

Recently in Social Sciences with Ms. Pugh and Ms. Robinson, we have been learning about the New Zealand Government and its different branches such as LegislativeExecutive Judiciary. Each of these branches has something to do with the government and they split the parliament into those three parties. The meanings of these words are :

  • Legislative - Is having the power to make laws and making sure that they get followed by the people of the community.
  • Executive - Is the branch in the government that makes sure people NZ know the laws of the government.
  • Judiciary - Judiciary has the power to fine you in court for not standing by the obligated laws and guidelines that we were given by the Government.

Samoan Language Week

This is week Samoan Language Week and I have learned so many facts about this wonderful language, their culture and how they have maintained their language. Most languages in NZ are starting to die out which is making people forget about their heritage. It is important to hold onto your language so that younger generations can know where they came from. In NZ they should let different languages be apart of a students school day.

What Makes Up A Community

In Social Science, my group and I created this presentation about what makes a community. In this presentation, we brainstorm all the ideas about what makes a community. One of the ideas we came up with was that a community is "A place where people live and a place where people meet new people and make new friends. In every community, there are places like local shops such as Parks, Libraries, Townships, Doctors, and Barbers which all provide services to your community. In my community, there are places such as dairies, real estate dealerships, parks, and libraries.

History Of Te Reo Maori

The History of New Zealand

In New Zealand, the indigenous language is Te Reo Maori spoken by the indigenous people of Aotearoa but during the 1900s the langue was starting to dying out.
In schools, Te Reo Maori was banned as a language taught in classes because New Zealanders had gotten a mistaken idea by thinking that European history was more important then Maori history. This was because of the most the indigenous people moved to the countrysides and cities which made people forget their original roots. Now attitudes have changed and now people are fond of the culture and history and now Te Reo Maori is proudly taught in New Zealand schools.

This summary is about the history of Te Reo Maori and how it was about to die out because of the Maori people remembering how they are and where they come from. I learned so much about culture and history.

What does Empathy mean to me ?

What does Empathy mean to me?

To me, Empathy is to have the ability or the skill to understand and share the feelings of others. When showing Empathy you use encouraging words such as Good Job, Well done, I'll help you, Your the best and You'll get it right next time. When using Empathy you use it everywhere, in the playgrounds, community and at home. This is a great way to use Empathy because having Empathy is one of the best skills to have. There are people all around the world who have felt unhappy because they have been bullied and hurt in a way so that is why having Empathy for everyone is great.

Kiribati Climate Change Literacy Reading

Martina and her family migrated from their country because of the climate changing and now it is becoming threatening to the people of Kiribati. One of the reasons Maritina migrate from Kiribati was because of a Push Reason. ( A push reason are a negative reason why people leave their country of origin ).  In the news story is has been predicted that this island will be underwater in the next decade. This is caused by the Greenhouse gases that circulate the Earth and keeps it warm. The rising temperature is cause climate change and that is also causing the fish and the all food source to leave the waters which is causing hunger.
