How A Bill Becomes A Law
For the past couple of weeks, we have been learning about Bills, Laws & the Government, but we also learned how bills can become laws. I have learned things such as the 7 Steps of making a bill a law and how exactly
The 7 Steps are :
- Bill Is Introduced - The bill is introduced to the whole house
- First Reading - The members of parliament debate if the bill should be further discussed or if it should be rejected.
- Select Committee - A selected committee of MP's read & listen to what the public points of view of the public and interested organizations, recommend suggestions (changes) & then report back to the House. This takes within six months.
- Second Reading - The bill is returned to the House and with the recommendations of the select committee. The members consider the recommendations and decide if the bill should be taken forth of the Committee of the whole house.
- Committee Of The Whole House - The Members debate the bill partly by part in a detailed examination that usually takes several days & that is the last chance to change anything on the bill.
- Third Reading - This is the final debate, in which the MP's take a look bill as one whole and discuss what will happen if the bill becomes a law.
- Royal Assent - The Governer- General signs of the bill on behalf of the Sovereign, agreeing that the bill will become an Act Of Parliament and pass into a law.
