Read Theory Progress

Today for Reading LS2 has been looking at our Read Theory Progress. I this task I created a graph where I showed the progress that I made from the beginning of the year and up to now. My highest grade that I have gotten was 7 and it was in November and the lowest was 3 and that was in May. I really enjoyed this activity because I got to look back and I could see the progress I have made.

Book Week- My time line through reading

My time line through Reading

Today PBS is having their very own book week. For this special event, we had a task to remember the books that we have liked during the time of our lives and make a DLO showing the history of books that we have liked and way we liked them. In this task, I remembered six books that I have read from the time I was 5 years old to the now where I am 13 years old. I really enjoyed this activity because I got to go through memories and all these books that I have read have helped with learning new words and help with using my imagination.

Difference between Formal and Informal writing

Today for Reading our activity was to look at the meaning of formal and Informal writing. In used two sentences from my the letters that we used.

Formal meaning- This language is used writing for a professional purpose like writing to your boss or work mate.

Informal meaning- This types of language is used when writing to your mates.

Formal writing  / Informal writing

'I am writing to complain' about the 'condition of the playground'. Over the last two weeks, I have noticed 'a great deal of litter'. - This sentence is part of the formal letter. I know this because of you only formal if the letter is to your boss, workmates parents, and grandparents. While writing a formal letter you have to remember not to use words like 'gotta go' and 'dead busy'

'How are you' I’ve been 'dead busy' since your last letter. We have to work really hard at school to get ready for our PAT tests. This sentence is from the paragraph in the informal letter. I changed the word I 'trust this letter finds you well'  to 'how are you', I also changed the word 'extremely busy' to 'dead busy'  and 'in preparation'  to 'to get ready'.

In this DLO I found a map of New Zealand and where you can find them around New Zealand. I really enjoyed making this DLO because I learned a lot of facts about Orca Whales.

Duffy Assembly

Duffy Assembly

Today we had a Duffy Assembly and we had a special guest. He was a Comic book artist and a professional wrestler and his name were Michel Mulipola. He came to talk to us about how reading helped him with creating his comic books. He told us how he traveled the world with his wrestling career and how he met his role models and then became friends with them. He was really cool and I thought that he made his dream come true.

Making Connections- Sports News

Making Connections

Today for reading my group Rotorua were doing Reciprocal Reading and the book we read was called Sports News. This book was about all different types of sports that had its dangers but the people doing it knew how to keep themselves safe. What I liked about this story was that these were faced with challenges like having a disability or being too young but they still pulled through and reached the goals they set for themselves. This story was written by Jill Eggleton and Illustrated by Rob Keily. The pattern in this book was two hot sports then one cold one and it continued throughout the book. I really liked this book because it was inspirational.

Key into Evaluation- My best day

My best day

I was four and I had no one to play with. I always used to be sad, unhappy and lonely. But one day mom told me that she had a surprise for me and that I had to guess so I asked if it was a dog, “ she not quit ” , then I asked her if it was a barbie dream house, and she said “ not that close”.  Then she said have one more guess, I said a little brother and she yelled “ Yes finally you’ve got it ”.
Months went by as I waited for my little brother to come. Meanwhile my dad was trying to look for names to give my little brother.

Finally the day had come, there was water on the kitchen floor well I thought it was water until my dad told me what it actually was. My dad called my Aunt to come babysit us while they went to the hospital but I think he forgot that she already came. A night went by and my Aunt drove us to the hospital. My dad out a room and showed me and my older brother to our mom. She was so tired I could see it. My mom said that dad named him Griffin, I said Griffin that a cool name. I can't wait to tell everyone my special news.

Today for Reading working on a DLO about either the best day that we've ever had or the worst day that we've had, so I chose the best day. So wrote about the day got my little brother and in this I explained how I felt, what I was going to do and that I going to tell every one at school on Monday. I really liked doing this because I got to explain a very important day in my life.

Key Into Evaluation- Places to Visit in New York City

Today for Reading I was creating a DLO about 5 place around the Empire State Building that I would like to visit in New York City.  I chose these five places because I found interest in them Star bucks, Model scouts,  Spot Dessert Bar, Juvenex Spa, Panera Bread and the Empire State Building. I would actually one day want to visit these places when I am older. What I enjoyed about this task was to explore google maps and see what these places looked liked.

Read Theory - Progress

This is my graph for Read Theory. It shows the progress I've made in Reading. My three best scores are 100% for a quiz about being Afraid of flying, the second quiz I got 100 % for a quiz about a cheese hat and my third one I got 80 %  for a quiz about Party Planning. I've been trying to keep my pace and keep getting better scores Next time I will remember to go back and re- read my story to match my answer.

Key Into Evaluation - City Fitness

Today for reading I was creating a DLO about a gym in my local area. The gym I chose to was City Fitness, I chose this gym because I thought that looks like a very good gym and it's in my local area. I had to explain how much it costs to join, where it is and how old you need to be to join. I really enjoyed learning about this gym.

Wheel Words

Today for Reading my group Rotorua and Motuihe were playing a game called Wheel words. Wheel words is a game where you have to make a word by using a letter on a wheel but there's a twist you are supposed to use the letter in the middle. We were only allowed to use three (3) hits and that was it, no more then that. I really enjoyed playing this game because it challenges your brain and makes you think out side of the box. This is a link to the game so you can enjoy playing it to Wheel words

How to ride a Unicycle

Today for Reading my group was doing a Key into evaluation about different of wheeled cycles. In this evaluation we first read a story that explains how they work, what they were used for and how they were just a short craze. Did you know the different names for a unicycle are uni which means only one wheel, bi which means only two wheels, tri which means only three wheels. I learned that unicycle was a short craze but it has slowly come back because have become fond of uni cycling. I would personally not want to do uni cycling because I think I mite fall off and hurt myself. You can do a lot of really cool tricks of it and this video will help if need help. It was fun learning about riding a Unicycle.
