Difference between Formal and Informal writing

Today for Reading our activity was to look at the meaning of formal and Informal writing. In used two sentences from my the letters that we used.

Formal meaning- This language is used writing for a professional purpose like writing to your boss or work mate.

Informal meaning- This types of language is used when writing to your mates.

Formal writing  / Informal writing

'I am writing to complain' about the 'condition of the playground'. Over the last two weeks, I have noticed 'a great deal of litter'. - This sentence is part of the formal letter. I know this because of you only formal if the letter is to your boss, workmates parents, and grandparents. While writing a formal letter you have to remember not to use words like 'gotta go' and 'dead busy'

'How are you' I’ve been 'dead busy' since your last letter. We have to work really hard at school to get ready for our PAT tests. This sentence is from the paragraph in the informal letter. I changed the word I 'trust this letter finds you well'  to 'how are you', I also changed the word 'extremely busy' to 'dead busy'  and 'in preparation'  to 'to get ready'.
